Jacka’s Newest Stage Officially Opened

Jacka has reached a key milestone today with the opening of its latest stage, paving the way for the construction of over 500 new homes.

“As our city grows, the ACT Government is prioritising housing choice, supply and affordability for all Canberrans. In the coming years with families building their homes, the newest stage of Jacka will deliver around 500 dwellings. Thousands of Canberrans will call the suburb home,” Minister for Housing and Suburban Development Yvette Berry said.

“It’s really important that Canberra’s new suburbs provide for the community with living space and green areas.

“Around 70 per cent of Jacka will be dedicated to wide-open space, including playing fields, netball courts, an EV charging station, a central playground, and interconnected pathways and trails.”

Minister Berry said this new stage of Jacka will include single residential, multi-unit, community spaces and commercial opportunities in the future Local Centre.

When complete, this small-scale sustainable suburb will one day be home to almost 1,800 residents.

“Importantly, the suburb has a target of 15% affordable, community and public homes. Amongst the ongoing housing crisis, opening up more land for new homes goes a long way towards increasing overall housing supply,” Minister Berry said.

“Excitingly, it will also be an all-electric suburb, with rebates and bonds on offer for future residents who include energy efficient features, such as solar panels, in their homes.

“The Suburban Land Agency is working closely with the local community and stakeholders to understand what they want to see in the future Jacka Local Centre.”

“I look forward to seeing Jacka’s community grow and thrive as more Canberrans move in,” Minister Berry said.
