Mitchell Shire Council showcases local artistry at hArt24 Exhibition

Mitchell Shire Council is set to showcase the extraordinary talent of local artists at the hArt24 exhibition, an event that celebrates the works of youth and adult artists living, working, or connected to the Shire.

This year’s exhibition introduces a new category dedicated to First Nations artists, acknowledging the rich artistic heritage and contributions of the Indigenous people within Mitchell Shire.

Council invites artists to submit up to two works in a variety of mediums including digital, projections, painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, small sculptures, photography, textiles, and jewellery. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are accepted.

First prize at last year’s exhibition was awarded to Priscilla Indichnavon for her mixed media piece. Priscilla said the exhibition was a fantastic opportunity for local artists to showcase their work.

“The setup of the exhibition was fantastic, ensuring each piece was showcased to its best advantage,” she said.

“I encourage artists to embrace their passion and don’t shy away from creating a larger, bold piece because they can be incredibly fulfilling.

“I’m keen to see the array of unique and captivating works this year. This exhibition is a remarkable showcase of the varied artistic expressions within our community.”

Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister said the array of creativity displayed by artists was always remarkable.

“Creativity is evident throughout Mitchell Shire, from local markets and galleries to public exhibitions and even on the walls of cafes and gathering spaces,” she said.

“The hArt24 exhibition is a pivotal event that highlights this diversity.

“The new First Nations category is a crucial addition, reflecting our respect for the long-standing artistic traditions of Indigenous cultures in our region.”

Applications close 5pm Sunday 23 June. Prizes will be announced at the opening night event on Friday 26 July from 6pm to 8pm.

The exhibition runs from Friday 26 July to Sunday 4 August from 10am to 4pm at the Broadford Hall, 113 High Street, Broadford (enter via Council chambers).
