Southern Cross University’s National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) has launched its first-ever giving campaign with an ambitious goal of reaching $100,000 by 24 May, 2024.
The funding will help the NCNM continue its ground-breaking work in education, research and advocacy.
Since its foundation in 2020, thanks to a generous donation from the Blackmore Foundation, the NCNM has rapidly established itself as a leader in integrative healthcare.
Clinical trials conducted by the NCNM over the last four years have investigated naturopathic treatments for diabetes, brain cancer and Parkinson’s Disease. Ongoing research is exploring integrative health options in a range of scenarios from disaster management and mental health to veteran care and lifestyle modification.
Professor Jon Wardle, NCNM Foundation Director, said the centre was focused on meaningful change in healthcare.
“What matters to us is that we change the conversation on health. We are committed to helping the patient be an active part of their treatment journey,” said Professor Wardle.
Experts from the NCNM have contributed to public health reports on self-care, advocacy in health policy and legislation, along with developing benefit-sharing frameworks for First Nations medicines and long COVID research in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) populations.
“We have a responsibility to respond to the growing health care needs of Australia and evidence-based natural medicine will play an increasingly active role in that response,” said Marcus Blackmore AM, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Southern Cross University in 2006.
The NCNM offers a comprehensive training program in naturopathic, lifestyle and integrative medicine. These include a clinical training program which combines the Bachelor of Health Science (Health and Lifestyle) followed by the Master of Naturopathic Medicine to become a clinical naturopath, as well as a suite of postgraduate courses in Advanced Naturopathic Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine and Integrative Medicine.
A free, public lecture in Byron Bay on blending traditional knowledge with cutting edge science will be held to coincide with the giving campaign on Wednesday 22 May.
