The City of Ryde is joining communities throughout Australia to honour the memory of those lost as a result of domestic or family violence.
Today, 1 May is Domestic Violence Remembrance Day. It is a chance for everyone in our Ryde community to help honour the women and families who have been impacted by this growing national issue.
Domestic and family violence affects people from all walks of life and includes many forms of abuse and violence that are not always physical.
This Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, speak up and lift the veil of silence that surrounds domestic and family violence, and reach out for support if experiencing, and/or perpetrating violence.
City of Ryde is committed to preventing violence and abuse against families and women and is a White Ribbon Australia Accredited Workplace, achieving successful accreditation in July 2021.
City of Ryde hosts a number of annual events in support of women and family safety including Make a Stand against Abuse in November and International Women’s Day in March.
City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Trenton Brown said domestic violence was an issue that impacted every part of society.
“We need to be doing more to prevent violence and abuse against women and families,” Clr Brown said. “It’s up to all of us to work together to end the scourge of domestic violence in this country and I’m proud that the City of Ryde is supporting this incredibly important cause.”
