Grants available for Queenslanders to help Qld Women’s Week take off again in 2020

Queensland Women’s Week 2020 is set to be bigger and better than ever before and community groups are now being invited to apply for their share in $150,000 worth of grants.

Minister for Women Di Farmer called for applications from everywhere across Queensland for events, projects and activities that celebrate and inspire Queensland women, and advance gender equality in our community.

“There are women right across Queensland doing absolutely amazing things every day, and Queensland Week is about recognising and celebrating that,” she said.

“It’s also about promoting gender equality – the Queensland we want to be is one where women are valued and respected, and our rights and our wellbeing are protected and promoted.

“Community organisations can now apply for grants of up to $3000 each to hold celebrations throughout Queensland Women’s Week, and I would encourage them to apply.

“The success of Queensland Women’s Week has grown year on year, and in 2020 we want to make sure the week is even better with more Queenslanders out celebrating.”

Ms Farmer said Queensland Women’s Week, which will run from 6 to15 March 2020, provided a strong platform to raise awareness of the causes of inequality and continue efforts to create real gender equality.

“For next year’s Queensland Women’s Week, we are looking for activities that offer opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and cultural and linguistic backgrounds to join together in celebration of the achievements of Queensland women and girls,” she said.

“We know that by working together towards gender equality, all Queenslanders can have the same opportunities to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential.”

The Queensland Government’s Office for Women is administering the 2020 Queensland Women’s Week grant program.

Grants are available to eligible applicants, which include not-for-profit groups, local government entities, and Parents & Citizens Associations.

Applications for the grants open on 1 October 2019, and close 31 October 2019.
