Three people charged following five-year fraud investigation, Far North

Detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) charged three people following a protracted fraud investigation.

It will be alleged between 2021 and 2025, a 44-year-old man, a 56-year-old man, and a 48-year-old woman all from Coen, dishonestly used more than $400,000 from two corporations in the Cape York area.

Police allege the funds were used to purchase private suites and catering at rugby league games in Brisbane, international airfares and luxury accommodation, fishing charters, and host private social events.

A 44-year-old Coen man was charged with fifteen offences including eight counts of fraudulently produces or uses any record which is false, five counts of fraud dishonest application of property, and two counts of fraud dishonestly gain benefit/advantage.

He is due to appear in the Coen Magistrates Court on 8 July.

A 56-year-old Coen man was charged with 22 offences, ten counts of fraud dishonest application of property, 11 counts of fraudulently produces or uses any record which is false, and one count of fraud dishonestly gain benefit/advantage.

He is due to reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 21 July.

A 48-year-old Coen woman was charged with five counts of fraud dishonest application of property and two counts of fraudulently producers or uses any record which is false.

She is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 21 July.
