Improving Safety For Victoria’s Jewish Community

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is ensuring that Victoria’s Jewish communities can safely practice their faith.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt today announced the opening of the Jewish Community Security Infrastructure Program – with up to $1 million available to bolster the safety and security of Jewish community buildings.

Grants of up to $200,000 will be available to Jewish community organisations to support the purchase, installation or improvement of security equipment at community facilities.

These communal spaces are essential to Jewish communities, serving as places to safely come together and practice faith and traditions.

The Jewish Community Infrastructure Program is an election commitment that is part of the $40 million investment to build, upgrade and renovate community infrastructure for multicultural and multifaith communities.

The Beth Weizmann Community Centre, home to many Jewish organisations, has previously received funding to upgrade security around their buildings and provide a safe and secure space for the Jewish community.

Applications will be prioritised from smaller organisations, such as community halls and hubs, and facilities that have limited or outdated security infrastructure in place.

Applications are open Thursday 9 May and close at 3pm on Thursday 18 July 2024.

As stated by Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt

“Every Victorian, regardless of their cultural or faith background, deserves to feel safe.”

“Social cohesion is incredibly important here in Victoria, and we are making sure that these facilities continue to be places where communities can come together to meet, work and practice their faith.”
