Police Arrest Man Over Grass Fires

Police have arrested a man following a number of spot fires in the southern suburbs this morning.

About 7am on Monday 6 May, police were called to Minchinbury Terrace after a man was seen acting suspiciously in bushes and thought to be lighting a fire.

About the same time, another grass fire was reported at Crozier Terrace, Sturt.

Police searched the area with the assistance of dog operations and located a suspect matching the witnesses’ description running across Brighton Road. The man was quickly arrested. He was also believed to be riding a stolen pushbike in the area.

A 37-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with two counts of arson and theft. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
