Territorians recognised at World Red Cross Day Awards ceremony

Dedicated Australian Red Cross volunteers, members and staff have been honoured for their service at a ceremony at Parliament House today hosted by the Honourable Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

The ceremony, held on World Red Cross Day, is a way to recognise special achievements made by Australian Red Cross people, with awards going to those who display exceptional leadership, service, or performance through their contributions to Red Cross and the community.

Australian Red Cross Director for Northern Territory, William Daw presented the awards in conjunction with the Honourable Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

“Australian Red Cross values the tremendous contributions our members, volunteers and staff make each and everyday,” Mr Daw said.

“In the Northern Territory we have hundreds of members, volunteers and staff working across Emergency Services, Community Programs and Migration Support dedicated to making a difference, championing humanity, and bringing aid to vulnerable people.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of the award winners today on behalf of Australian Red Cross and the people we serve,” Mr Daw said.

Award Details and Citations

Mohomed Nihad Raheem – Distinguished Staff Award

Mohomed Nihad has received the Australian Red Cross Distinguished Staff Award in recognition for his exceptional service and unwavering commitment to our organisation’s mission. Most notably, Mohomed played a pivotal role in the ‘Community Connect Food Truck’ project which catered to gatherings of hundreds of people.

Distinguished Team Award

The NT Migration Support Team has been recognised with the Distinguished Team Award for their collaborative spirit and seamless integration across geographical boundaries, uniting with a deep commitment to a common cause. They also raised a $44,559 through 48 fundraising initiatives in the 2022/2023 period.

Certificate of Commendation – Gracia Martinez

Gracia Martinez has received the Certificate of Commendation for her remarkable dedication, unwavering commitment and outstanding contributions to the NT community and Australian Red Cross. Gracia’s work coordinating the Connected Women program in Katherine is testament to her passion for community mobilisation and positive change.
