  • Thousands of out-of-state fans have touched down in Perth to watch the spectacle unfold live at RAC Arena
  • Event officially declared a sellout
  • Blockbuster fights to be broadcast to over 100 countries

Perth is the centre of the boxing world this weekend as the Triple World Title boxing spectacle unfolds with a series of halo events across the city ahead of the main event tomorrow, Sunday 12 May.

Fans had the opportunity to see their favourites up close yesterday at the open training session and the build up continues today with the official weigh in, an important part of the pre-fight hype where boxers have to meet the limit of their respective weight class they are competing in.

It follows Vasily Lomachenko’s meet and greet last week with members of the Ukrainian Association of Western Australia and local boxing fans in Perth’s inner-eastern suburbs.

The Australian-exclusive event, headlined by Australian George Kambosos Jr. and Ukrainian Vasiliy Lomachenko, has now officially been declared a sellout.

Kambosos and Lomachenko will fight for the IBF Lightweight World Title, with Pedro Guevara and Andrew Moloney on the undercard fighting for a vacant Interim Junior Bantamweight Title, and Nina Hughes defending her WBA Bantamweight Title against Cherneka Johnson.

Thousands of out-of-state visitors and Western Australians are expected to pack into RAC Arena to see some of the world’s most talented boxers face off in this blockbuster event, which will also be broadcast live to over 100 countries and territories.

The event is the latest in a string of major events secured by the WA Government, including February’s smash-hit WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth, the action-packed HSBC SVNS held in January, and the monumental weekend of Coldplay concerts last November.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

“This Triple World Title boxing event bringing so many people to our State is testament to the demand for high-profile sporting spectacles here in WA.

“Thousands of tickets have been purchased by out-of-state boxing fans, which means our local tourism and hospitality businesses will experience a big weekend of booming business, with millions of dollars expected in visitor spend.

“With so many tickets snapped up, we can also be confident that the live broadcast, which will put eyes from over 100 countries and territories across the world on WA, will elevate our State on a global stage as a world-leading sports and events destination.”

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

“It’s been tremendous to see the hype around this event build up ahead of tomorrow’s spectacle, as the local community and visitors alike get excited to see their favourites go head-to-head to secure or defend their world titles.

“Hosting blockbuster boxing event highlights Western Australia’s spectacular tourism and sports infrastructure and showcases our State as a premier destination for major sporting events.”
