100 people charged as festival operation concludes – The Hume

Police have charged more than 100 people with alleged drug offences and detected 43 positive random drug tests during a high-visibility operation at a music festival in the state’s south.

Between Wednesday 23 September 2025 and Tuesday 29 September 2025, officers attached to The Hume Police District conducted a high visibility operation across the duration of the Dragon Dreaming Festival on Caves Road, Wee Jasper, about 50km south-west of Yass.

During the operation, local police were assisted from the Dog Unit and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the following actions were taken,

  • 100 people charged,
  • 6 infringement notices issued,
  • 242 person searches conducted,
  • 164 drug detections,
  • 2957 random breath tests conducted
  • 553 random drug tests conducted,
  • 43 positive random drug tests,
  • 77 speed infringement notices and 26 other infringement notices issued, and
  • 204 vehicle searches

Notable incidents include;

  • About 5.15pm on Thursday 24 September 2026, police searched a vehicle on Caves Road, Wee Jasper, attempting to enter the festival. During the search, officers allegedly located and seized LSD, MDMA powder, MDMA tablets, MDMA capsules, methylamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, DMT, cannabis, an amount of prescribed medication, and various drug related paraphernalia. A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, where he was charged with ten supply and possess prohibited drug related offences. He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 on Friday 25 September 2026 where he was refused bail to appear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 25 November 2026.
  • About 7.30pm on Sunday 27 September 2026, police responded to an agitated male, who security staff were attempting to detain at the main stage area. As police attempted to arrest the man, he allegedly elbowed an officer in the face. He was charged with Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. He will appear before Yass Local Court on Monday 26 November 2026.
