$1.1 million awarded for initiatives supporting young people

  • Cook Labor Government awards $1.1 million to initiatives supporting young people to build skills and participate in their communities over the next two years
  • Encompass Legal and Community Services, zero2hero, Youth Disability Advocacy Network, and Department of Fire and Emergency Services to share in funding
  • Initiatives aligned with priorities in WA Youth Action Plan 2024-2027 Koorlangka Bidi

The Cook Labor Government has awarded $1.1 million over the next two years towards programs that will help young people build confidence, develop skills, access support, and take part in their communities.

Shared among four organisations, the funding boost coincides with the two-year anniversary of the launch of the WA Youth Action Plan 2024-27 Koorlangka Bidi, which was shaped by the voices of more than 2,250 young Western Australians.

Initiatives funded through this boost align with the priorities identified by young people through Western Australia’s Youth Action Plan 2024-27 Koorlangka Bidi, and include:

  • Encompass Legal and Community Services expanding its Youth Legal Service, helping young people better understand their workplace rights through targeted free legal support and online practical resources;
  • Department of Fire and Emergency Services launching a Youth Leadership and Volunteer Pathways program which will support young people to develop leadership skills and transition into adult volunteering roles;
  • zero2hero delivering Hero High mental health workshops in schools across the Wheatbelt, Mid West, South West, and Kimberley, improving access to mental health education for young people in regional communities; and
  • Youth Disability Advocacy Network strengthening volunteering pathways for young people living with disability by helping organisations improve accessibility and create more inclusive opportunities.

As stated by Youth Minister Hannah Beazley:

“Two years since I launched the Youth Action Plan, it’s fantastic that so much progress is being made in creating more inclusive and empowered communities for young people across Western Australia.

“This funding boost builds upon work we are already doing to implement our Youth Action Plan, Koorlangka Bidi, across the State and will see even more young people supported with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to reach their potential.

“I look forward to expanding on the milestones we’ve achieved in the last year as we approach the release of the plan’s Second Progress Report.”
