The first full year of free public transport starts today.
Tasmanians have been stepping aboard buses and ferries in large numbers since the Tasmanian Government made public transport free, delivering a significant cost of living measure.
Free public transport applies to all general access and dedicated school bus services as well as the Derwent Ferries, meaning that Tasmanians across the State will benefit.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said this was about delivering major cost of living relief.
“For many Tasmanians, this is a huge saving,” Minister Vincent said.
“For people heading into Hobart from Sorell or along the North West Coast going from Burnie to Devonport or beyond, this is a major financial relief.
“We have heard stories of Tasmanians taking the bus all the way from Hobart up to Devonport saving plenty along the way.
“The Derwent Ferry has been taking commuters in higher numbers than ever across the river straight into the heart of the CBD.
“Tasmanians are reaping the benefits of free public transport.
“Now, they can take full advantage of free public transport for the next twelve months.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’re pulling out all the stops to deliver on the things that matter to Tasmanians, including easing cost of living, better health services, and building more homes.”
