Concept designs have been revealed for the $32 million expansion at Glenunga International High School, as the Marshall Government’s $1.3 billion education capital works program moves full steam ahead.
The concept reveals come as 12 schools across the state have now begun construction on their projects, supporting hundreds of construction jobs across the state.
Construction is underway on $81.5 million worth of upgrades at Ceduna Area School, Gawler and District College, Le Fevre High School, Murray Bridge High School, Mount Barker High School, Nuriootpa Primary School, Parafield Gardens High School, Paralowie School and Salisbury High School, in addition to the new schools being built at Aldinga, Angle Vale and Whyalla.
The Glenunga International High School upgrade will include:
- Sufficient capacity to accommodate 2200 students to cater for enrolment growth and the transition of Year 7s into high school in 2022
- Construction of a new three storey science and technology building featuring specialist spaces for science, technology and innovation, as well as serviced learning areas, breakout areas and associated staff preparation areas
- Construction of a new double court gymnasium building with a two story annex accommodating health and physical education spaces, changerooms, serviced learning areas and amenities
- Creation of a common plaza and landscaping; and
- Additional car parking spaces.
The build will be completed by the end of next year in readiness for Term 1, 2022.
Education Minister John Gardner said the Government’s education capital works program was progressing at full steam ahead.
“With shovels in the ground, our $1.3 billion education capital works program is supporting South Australian jobs and boosting South Australia’s economy as we recover from the economic impacts of the coronavirus,” said Minister Gardner.
“I am sure that local families will be excited to see these concept designs and are eagerly looking forward to these upgrades coming to life.
“The concept designs released today at Glenunga reflect the local needs of this school and provides a glimpse of the modern, world-class educational facilities we are building across the state.
“Our record investment is lifting the capacity of schools in areas with rapidly growing public school enrolments, is assisting the transition of Year 7 into high school and delivering a generational upgrade of schools across South Australia.”
Minister for Innovation and Skills and Member for Unley David Pisoni welcomed the development.
“These new facilities will be a wonderful addition to this outstanding public school, and I’m delighted to help deliver this outcome for the Glenunga school community,” said Minister Pisoni.
