16 Days of Activism against gendered violence commences

As part of this year’s 16 days of Activism against Gendered Violence campaign, Greater Shepparton Family Violence Prevention Network (GSFVPN) is leading a local campaign beginning on Sunday 25 November with multiple events to raise awareness of family violence across the municipality.

16 days of Activism against Gendered Violence is a global campaign to raise awareness of the prevalence, impact and drivers of gendered violence as well as celebrating the achievements and progress in working toward a society free of gender inequity.

The theme of the Victorian campaign is ‘Respect #CallitOut’ with GSFVPN encouraging the local community to think about the role individuals and organisations can have in promoting gender equity.

A list of upcoming events can be found at https://www.facebook.com/GSFVPN/

Council’s role in the prevention of violence is within the scope of primary prevention, through raising awareness of the drivers of family violence and promotion of gender equity through a number of platforms. This includes the Women’s Charter Advisory Committee and the leadership and implementation of Council’s Gender Equity Strategy and Action Plan 2018-2021, Community Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2018-2021 and partnerships with key networks such as MAV and Women’s Health Goulburn North East.

Council will also be aiming to measure staff and communities attitudes for gender equality with multiple activations occurring with the HumanKind Enterprise’s ‘StoryPod’ during the 16 days of Activism. This activation will provide a safe and judgement-free space for everyone to share their story of the progress and challenges with achieving gender equality.
