16 Days of Activism calendar of events and activities launched

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Committee has released a calendar of events and activities for the community to get involved in the 16 Days of Activism from November 25 through to December 10.

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign to eliminate gender-based violence.

The calendar of events provides a range of opportunities for the community to get involved in a range of local initiatives and show their support. There are a range of online webinars, information sessions and community groups showcasing their support across the 16 Days including a floral display in the Conservatory Gardens.

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Committee Chair Margaret Singe said the committee has been operating since 2008 and has worked across a number of schools, sporting clubs and community groups to create local activities that the whole community can get involved in.

“The 16 Days of Activism provides an opportunity to hear of the good work already being done and for members of the community to demonstrate their support,” Ms Singe said.

“The Committee is always seeking new ways to raise awareness around family violence and to support moves towards gender equity. This year is no exception however with restrictions in place we have planned a COVID safe way for the community to get involved in a meaningful way.

“We want to see our community participating and encourage them to share images of themselves getting involved to the Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Facebook page. It could be an image of you wearing orange, taking one of the orange flowers that the Yarn Bombers have created or participating in the daily quiz question.

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence committee aligns with the Victoria Against Violence Program.
