$1.79 million set to revitalise Toodyay community recreation spaces

  • McGowan Government commits $1.79 million to Toodyay Sports Precinct
  • $900,000 provided by the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and a further $890,000 provided by a Lotterywest grant
  • Project is jointly funded by Federal, State and local governments
  • Construction of the new Toodyay Sports Precinct is set to begin, thanks to a $1.79 million contribution from the McGowan Government.

Premier Mark McGowan visited Toodyay today to announce details of the project and to meet local community sporting clubs.

The project – funded jointly by Federal, State and local governments – will provide Toodyay with a multipurpose sporting pavilion; new tennis, netball and basketball courts; and relocate the existing hockey and soccer fields to a new location with floodlighting.

Located next to Toodyay District High School, the new precinct will become a hub for grassroots sport providing new facilities for the community’s 4,500 residents.

The State Government’s contribution is funded through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), which provides funding to local clubs for sport and recreation projects, and Lotterywest.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“The Toodyay Sports Precinct will become a hub for a range of local sports, providing a timely upgrade on local sporting infrastructure and helping to foster a healthier, more connected community.

“Grassroots sport is the cornerstone of country communities like Toodyay, and my Government is proud to help deliver this important project.

“Not only will the new precinct offer better opportunities for local junior and senior sport – it will provide important work for tradespeople in a range of industries, supporting small businesses and local jobs.”

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

“The CSRFF is such an important local funding program – particularly in regional areas where local sport is such a big part of community life.

“Shared facilities are a great way to build a lively, well-attended precinct – and the new multi-sport pavilion and multi-use courts will provide better opportunities for a range of local sports.”

As stated by Agricultural Region MLC Darren West:

“Toodyay is a growing community and this project is vital to accommodate further growth into the future.

“With a community pavilion, new playing courts and fields, this will be a place all residents can enjoy.”

As stated by Agricultural Region MLC Laurie Graham:

“The McGowan Government is committed to delivering for regional WA, and I’m pleased to see that construction will soon be underway on the new Toodyay Sports Precinct.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our local sporting clubs put the new facilities to good use.”
