$180K in new grants to help small businesses hurt by coronavirus

Small businesses in Corangamite Shire that have been impacted by the COVID-19 economic downturn could get boost thanks to four new grants programs totalling $180,000.

Applications for three of the new Council funding schemes are now open, with the fourth launching in the new financial year. Conditions apply.

Digital Grant Program: Up to $2000 on a on a $1:$2 basis to complete a digital assistance package, designed to assist with purchase or upgrade of digital and e-commerce technology. Total $50,000. Open now.

Diversification Grant Program: Up to $5000 on a $1:$2 basis to offer a new service or significantly change the way they do business. Total $50,000. Open now.

Forced Business Closure Grant Program: One-off payment of $1000 for any business in Corangamite Shire that has been forced to close because of State Government coronavirus recommendations. Total $30,000. Open now.

Traditional Advertising Grant Program: Up to $2000 on a $1:$2 basis for local advertising (newspapers and radio). Total $50,000. Opens in July.

Acting Director Sustainable Development Rory Neeson said the aim was to give the local economy a cash injection that would speed up the Shire’s financial recovery.

“Council encourages our small business operators who have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to get on the front foot and apply for these grants quickly,” Mr Neeson said.

“Grants will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis to get the money circulating sooner rather than later.”

Businesses are only be eligible to apply for two of these new programs, to make sure as many impacted businesses as possible can benefit.

Mr Neeson said operators should refer to the relevant guidelines for each grant program on Council’s website and consider which best suit their needs.
