1kg cocaine, cash seized; two charged, NSW

Two men will face court today charged after officers allegedly seized more than a kilogram of cocaine following a vehicle stop in Sydney’s south-west yesterday.

About 11.40am (Tuesday 14 January 2020), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were patrolling the Canley Heights area, when they stopped a Toyota Camry in the carpark of a hotel On Canley Valley Road.

Detectives spoke to the occupants and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a backpack that is alleged to have contained more than one kilogram of cocaine.

The occupants, two men aged 25 and 22, were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

Following inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a Chipping Norton storage facility about 4pm, where investigators allegedly uncovered a clandestine drug laboratory, which contained a large amount of drug paraphernalia and chemicals.

A crime scene was established, with specialist forensic officers from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit attending to dismantle the lab.

Officers executed a further search warrant at a residence on Spencer Street, Fairfield about 9pm, where officers allegedly seized methamphetamine, cocaine, cash, ammunition and an extendable baton.

The items were all seized and will be forensically examined.

The older man was charged with supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

The younger man was charged with supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 15 January 2020).
