The 2020 WA Sporting Car Club season is heading fast towards the November Nightmasters finale with the second last meet of the season scheduled for Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1stNovember 2020.
Two days of racing will feature an increased three feature races from the normal two with the addition of the Rob Janney Memorial Trophy in the Time Challenge Category.
Rob Janney was a long serving and passionate member of the WA Sporting Car Club who championed the Time Challenge Category and competed in it fiercely who passed away in early 2020.
Also up for grabs is the BM Graphics & Morton Plate in the Formula Vee category and the Trevor Roy Young Memorial in the Historic Touring Cars classes. Joining these three categories on track will be the Formula 1000 and Radicals, Improved Production Cars, Sports Sedans and Sports Cars, Excel Cup, Formula Classic, Formula Ford, Holden HQs and the Street Cars.
WA Sporting Car Club’s Chair of the Competition & Events Committee – Peter Dyball had this to say about the upcoming October race meet:
“We’re getting to the pointy end of the competition year and championship winners will decided in the next few weeks, so we’re absolutely pumped for the October Race Meeting. There’s a full card of race activities with all but the Saloon Cars represented over the 2 days. A couple of categories have their signature events, Historic Touring Cars with the Trevor Roy Young Memorial, Formula Vee with the BM Graphics and Morton Plates. We’re not sure who’ll win, we’re not sure about the weather, what we are sure about is some great competition.”
“We’ve also got an inaugural event in Time Challenge which will see the Rob Janney Memorial Trophy being awarded. This is a new perpetual trophy in honour of our great mate, life member and former WASCC President who passed away earlier this year. Rob loved the Time Challenge event and was a canny competitor in his much loved Subaru WRX. I’ll be taking a moment on Saturday to remember Rob. “
“As well as the October meeting in short form we’ve got our Nightmasters event in a couple of weeks, then our End-of-Season Sundowner celebration on 21st November at Royal Perth Yacht Club. The Sundowner will be a great night for members, officials, spouses and partners. Numbers are limited, so book early!”
Once again the park and view areas located in turns 1, 3, 4 and 7 will be open and spectators will also be permitted to wander the pit paddock area where they can chat to the drivers and look at the cars participating over the day. Entry is just $5 per car each day with gates opening at 8am, racing starts at 9am on Saturday and gates opening at 7am, racing from 8am.
