2020 Federal Budget – West Coast Roads

The West Coast Council welcomes the release of the 2019/2020 Federal Budget and the news that spendings of $25 million have been allotted for Murchison Highway upgrades and $15 million for Lyell Highway upgrades between Queenstown and Strahan.

Council has long been advocating for increased road spending on the West Coast.

Mayor Phil Vickers said: “Council welcomes the budgetary spending and hopes that whichever party is in power will respect this important and much needed investment for the West Coast.”

The West Coast Council hopes this funding will support complete solutions with an emphasise on creating safe roads for West Coasters and tourist traffic and expects that both sides of politics will support this important infrastructure spending on the West Coast.

Council looks forward to working with State Government to ensure the money is spent where it is most needed.
