Back for its 38th year, the Victorian Seniors Festival is returning in a new digital format that’s being streamed directly into the homes of more than one-million Victorian seniors.
Council is supporting this year’s festival and is encouraging Maroondah residents aged 60 and over to embrace all the festival has to offer, with specially curated content residents can watch and listen to online
“During this time of social isolation, many seniors have been forced to embrace new technology, and for many this has opened up a whole new and exciting world,” Councillor Tony Dib said.
“The Seniors Festival is one event many older members of our community look forward to each year. Ordinarily, the month-long festival is held in October with a range of free and low-cost local activities and outings for residents to enjoy,” Cr Dib said.
“With physical distancing rules in place, however, the usual month-long festival has been ‘reimagined’ into a six-month virtual celebration, with digital broadcasts of online events and activities continuing until the end of October.”
Maroondah seniors can enjoy weekly broadcasts of Australia’s best talents and stories recognising and celebrating seniors across the state. See and hear from country music legends Tania Kernaghan and James Blundell, Wendy Stapleton and Aboriginal singer-songwriter, Kutcha Edwards, as well as stand-up comedy, Bollywood dancing, and so much more.
“The Victorian Seniors Festival is a state-wide celebration of people aged 60 and over – it’s also a great time to celebrate ageing well across the City of Maroondah,” Cr Dib said.
“I encourage residents to visit the 2020 Victorian Seniors Festival reimagined – Seniors online and celebrate this wonderful event. Best of all, you don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home to enjoy the festival,” Cr Dib said.
