2021 Australia Day Award nominations now open at Mildura

Council’s 2021 Australia Day Award nominations are now open, providing a chance to see local residents, projects or events receive the recognition they deserve for their commitment and service to the community.

Nominations are open in the following three categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event or Project of the Year

Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence encouraged residents to consider nominating a person, event or project.

“Australia Day Awards are prestigious accolades and a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate those who’ve achieved, done something special or showed tremendous dedication,” Cr Clemence said.

“A look back at our previous Australia Day Award recipients shows we have so much to be proud of, and in many cases their achievements may have gone unrecognised in the wider community if not for someone nominating them for an Australia Day Award.

“Now, amongst the current challenges we’re all facing, it’s more important than ever to celebrate the good things, the residents and groups in our community who do so much, and achieve so much.”

Nominations are open until 5pm on Friday 6 November. This year nominations can be submitted directly online or by downloading a nomination form from Council’s website.

Nomination forms, full eligibility and selection criteria, as well as all the information required to assist with the nomination process are available at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Community/Australia-Day-Awards. Forms can also be emailed or mailed out on request.

People considering nominating a person, project or event are encouraged to take note of the nomination criteria to ensure their entry is considered. For example some questions specify a minimum word count.

“By providing as much detail as you can you’ll ensure your nomination is assessed by the judging panel,” Cr Clemence said.

In addition to providing comprehensive responses to each question, additional details can be included in separate documents, along with copies of awards or supporting documents such as newspaper clippings or magazine articles recording nominees’ achievements.
