2026 Seniors Week awards finalists and grant recipients announced

  • Grant recipients will share in $85,000 to host community events in celebration of 2026 WA Seniors Week, from 8-15 November
  • Nine individuals, three businesses, and three local governments named as finalists in 2026 WA Seniors Awards

Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk has announced the 2026 Seniors Week Grants recipients, sharing in $85,000 funding to host community events to celebrate Seniors Week from 8-15 November.

Atotal of 55 community organisations and local governments in metropolitan, regional, and remote areas of the State have been provided with grant funding for Seniors Week activities.

Seniors Week acknowledges the role of older people in our communities, promotes positive ageing, and encourages participation in community life.

Events include Memory Lane quiz nights in Geraldton and Bunbury, a free open day at Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, a bingo night in Derby hosted by Marnin Bowa Dumbara Family Healing Centre, as well as a chair yoga session, martial arts, games, geocaching, and a community lunch in Denmark.

Finalists have also been announced for another highlight of WA Seniors Week, the annual WA Seniors Awards to be held on 13 November 2026.

The WA Seniors Awards acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of exceptional seniors, as well as seniors’ advocates, businesses, and local governments that support older Western Australians to age well in their community and have a high quality of life no matter where they live.

A total of 15 outstanding individuals, businesses and local governments across Western Australia have been named as finalists in the following categories: WA Senior of the Year (metro and regional), WA Seniors Advocate of the Year, WA Age-Friendly Business, and WA Age-Friendly Local Government.

The finalists are:

As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:

“These grants will fund projects that strengthen older peoples’ connections to community and help to achieve age-friendly outcomes.
