$3000 awarded to Environmental Sustainability champions

St Peter’s Catholic Primary School Parents and Friends Association has been awarded a $3000 Environment and Sustainability Scheme grant for their “Don’t waste our environment” waste and recycling initiative, as part Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Assistance Program.

Supporting a Better Environment Councillor Donna Kirkland said with a program designed to support community-led environment and sustainability initiatives, the grant was awarded to a very worthy recipient.

“This is a fantastic project which aims to educate the school community on the benefits of recycling and how every student can make a positive contribution to the community,” said Cr Kirkland.

“The school is keen to reduce their impact on landfill and the natural world, whilst also reducing costs associated with waste collection.

“This project was successful in its application as it aligns with Council’s Waste Strategy and Environmental Sustainability Strategy – supporting our objective to work together to strengthen our community’s capacity to live sustainably.

“The program has helped numerous community groups launch their environmental sustainability projects, from building agricultural, kitchen and even butterfly gardens in schools, to knowledge sharing on weed control, play based learning initiatives and much more!

“I encourage any community group who has been thinking about launching a project aimed at improving environmental sustainability, to put forward an application.”
