The Liberal National Government will invest $30m for a new hospital at Swan Hill.
Funding will be delivered over the next five years to allow time for the finalisation of a masterplan that will deliver contemporary health infrastructure to support the people throughout the region.
Minister for Health, Greg Hunt said the government is committed to improving health services throughout Victoria and building a world class health system.
“Through our responsible management of the Australian economy we can afford to provide better health services that Australians need and want,” Minister Hunt said.
“This latest announcement will provide services that meet the current and future health care needs of this part of regional Victoria.”
“By delivering our plan for a strong economy we can make investments in projects like the new Swan Hill Hospital,” Minister Hunt said.
Federal Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad welcomed the announcement and said he was thrilled with the Government’s significant commitment to provide an opportunity for a much needed new hospital.
“This is a great announcement which is an acknowledgment that Minister Hunt who visited our electorate, not only listened, but acted, to ensure our health needs are addressed,” Mr Broad said.
“The Swan Hill community deserves a new hospital, and the timeframe of this funding will allow maximum opportunity to build new hospital facilities for Swan Hill.”
Liberal Candidate for Mallee, Serge Petrovich said, the Government’s decision to fund the construction of new hospital in Swan Hill was strong.
“I’m very pleased about this announcement. I’ve always believed that people who live in regional areas should have access to first rate health services and this is what a Liberal National Government can deliver when in Government.”
National Candidate, Dr Anne Webster said from this investment, Swan Hill and surrounding communities will soon have new up to date essential health care services.
“I recently visited Swan Hill and it was raised with me many times that whilst the hospital delivers good outcomes thanks to staff, the standard of the facilities no longer meet the requirements of the 21st century,” Ms Webster said.
“As a person whose husband is a health professional, I know the value of good health services in regional towns, and I welcome this announcement.”
The Liberal National Government’s strong economic management ensures the continued record investment of funding into vital health initiatives including mental health, life-saving medicines, Medicare and hospitals.
