- Volunteering WA receives $425,000 Lotterywest grant for National Volunteer Week celebrations
- The funding will be used to administer a small grants scheme for volunteering organisations to host events or activities for the week
- Cook Government continues to support volunteering sector with more than $6 million in funding over five years
Minister for Volunteering Don Punch has today announced a $425,000 Lotterywest grant to help celebrate and recognise Western Australia’s 1.5 million volunteers.
The funding has been awarded to Volunteering WA to administer a small grants scheme of up to $1,500 for organisations to host an event or activity to celebrate National Volunteer Week.
In 2024, more than 300 WA volunteering organisations will share in $335,000 through the Volunteering WA National Volunteer Week Grants, to celebrate and recognise their volunteers throughout the week.
Held from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 May 2024, National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest celebration of volunteering and this year’s theme is ‘Something for Everyone’.
The Lotterywest grant will also help support Volunteering WA’s Volunteer of the Year Awards held on Thursday 23 May 2024. The awards recognise the important contributions of volunteers across WA and feature seven award categories:
- WA Excellence in Volunteer Management
- Inclusive Volunteering Award
- WA Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering
- WA Young Volunteer of the Year
- WA Excellence in Corporate Volunteering
- WA Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year
- RAC WA Volunteer of the Year
The Cook Government is committed to supporting and strengthening volunteering in WA, investing more than $6 million to the Volunteering Development Service Program over five years.
The funding includes a recent $2.1 million boost to support the expansion of regional Volunteering Development Services.
Volunteering services and resource centres play a vital role in boosting volunteering across WA by developing more local opportunities, upskilling volunteers and working with volunteer-involving organisations to respond to community needs.
