$45.5 million announced in ACT Budget just to maintain current government disability supports

On Tuesday, the ACT Government announced $45.5 million in new initiatives in the territory budget. This expenditure will only cover the ACT Government’s costs for maintaining its existing disability supports, as the ACT transitions to the fully implemented NDIS on 1 July 2019. No new money has been made available to assist the non-government disability sector to transition to full scheme.

NDS welcomes the ACT Government’s commitment to prevent its disability support provision from going backwards during the transition, particularly the continuation of the Integrated Service Response Program (although with a reduction in the emergency funding allocation), rehabilitation and community care supports provided by Canberra Health Services, the Taxi Subsidy Scheme, and Children and Young People’s Equipment Loan Scheme.
