$50,000 worth of drugs seized during search in Murrumbidgee

A man will face court today charged over the alleged supply of prohibited drugs in the state’s Murrumbidgee region.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 29 March 2022), officers attached to the Murrumbidgee Criminal Investigations Unit and Proactive Crime Team conducted a firearms prohibition search at a home on Ethel Street, Ungarie.

During the search, police located PVC pipe and subsequently dug up areas in the backyard of the property, which led to the discovery of 7g of methylamphetamine and 45g of cannabis leaf. A search of the garden uncovered almost 2.3kg of cannabis leaf. Police also seized a military ordinance.

A 56-year-old man – who is a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang – had left the property and was later found hiding in a neighbour’s bedroom. He was arrested and taken to West Wyalong Police Station where he was charged with seven offences:

  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit,
  • supply prohibited drug,
  • supply cannabis – indictable quantity (x2),
  • possess prohibited drug (x2), and
  • recklessly deal with proceeds of crime

The Ungarie man was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court today (Wednesday 30 March 2022).

The estimated potential street value of the prohibited drugs is more than $50,000.
