2026 marks an incredible milestone for Probus, celebrating fifty years of helping tens of thousands of older Australians stay engaged and connected.
For five decades, Probus has brought together retired and semi-retired people, providing opportunities to connect, build lasting friendships and remain active and engaged within their communities.
To recognise this special anniversary, the Coat of Arms on the Wagga Wagga Civic Centre facade, along with the trees in Fitzmaurice Street, will be illuminated in blue and yellow, the colours of Probus, on Thursday 1 October 2026.
The lighting will provide a vibrant tribute to the organisation and the many members who have contributed to Probus communities over the past 50 years.
Marilyn Esler from Sturt Ladies Probus Club in Wagga Wagga said they now have around 75 members.
“Much fun and many friendships have been forged through social activities such as lunches, books, gardening, craft and walking groups,” Mrs Esler said.
“Guest speakers regularly delight and entertain us. I’m so glad to be part of such a warm and friendly group”.
Acting Manager Community Services Christine Bolton said the community lighting awareness campaign for this significant fifty-year Anniversary will help raise awareness of the valuable contributions that Probus makes to the wellbeing of many local community members.
