$927,000 to support Western Australians in hardship

  • State Government to further support Western Australians in crisis through $927,080 Lotterywest grant to Anglicare WA
  • Grant will provide emergency relief to 10,000 people experiencing financial hardship, homelessness, family and domestic violence or unemployment
  • Emergency relief is provided by Anglicare WA through its statewide services and community partnerships

The State Government has provided further support to not-for-profit organisation Anglicare WA, through Lotterywest, with a $927,080 grant.

The grant will support Anglicare WA to provide crisis and emergency relief over the next 12 months to 10,000 Western Australians experiencing, or at risk of, financial hardship, homelessness, family and domestic violence or unemployment.

Anglicare WA provides emergency relief across the State through its Emergency Relief service, and in partnership with the Emergency Relief and Food Access Service, as well as Anglican Church Parish Network in Perth and Boniface Care in the South-West and Great Southern.

The program provides a range of essential emergency relief to people and families in crisis, including bill assistance to maintain gas, water and electrical utilities, food and food vouchers, clothing, fuel vouchers, payment of pharmaceutical bills and urgent medical assistance as well as support to maintain tenancies.

As stated by Community Services Minister Sabine Winton:

“Not-for-profits like Anglicare WA do such important and meaningful work supporting our community.

“Our Government is always focused on what we can do to help Western Australian families, and this is another example of this.

“This grant will mean an additional 10,000 in our community can turn to vital organisations, like Anglicare WA, for crisis and emergency relief when they need it most.”

Comments from Anglicare WA CEO Mark Glasson:

“This grant will ensure we can support more Western Australians struggling to make ends meet right now.

“We are grateful to Lotterywest and the State Government for this boost to emergency relief funding so we can provide immediate financial assistance to more individuals and families experiencing hardship – to be able to buy groceries, pay a bill, or turn the heater on.”
