A boost for female sport in northern Tasmania

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Sport and Recreation

Playing sport is key to establishing lifelong healthy habits, and has a range of individual and social benefits, including improving physical and mental health, fostering social skills, and developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Through our Levelling the Playing Field program, the Hodgman Liberal Government is investing $225,000 towards the $360,000 of upgrades at the George Town Sports Complex to enable more women and girls to participate in sport.

Our $10 million Levelling the Playing Field commitment for women’s and girls’ sport facilities is by far the largest investment per capita by any state or territory government, and it shows the Government’s proud commitment to women’s sport.

Upgrades at the George Town Sports Complex include modern, accessible toilets, shower and change room facilities that can be used by those playing sport, but also for those watching the sports.

Providing greater opportunities for women and girls is a key priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government, which is why we want to grow female participation in Tasmanian sport.
