A day to recognise all CFA volunteers

Today, 5 December, is International Volunteer Day, recognising selfless volunteers all over the world for the valuable contribution they make to their communities.

A day to recognise all CFA volunteers

This day gives CFA the opportunity to thank every single one of our incredible volunteer members across the state for their efforts, sacrifices and hard work in protecting lives and property.

This year, International Volunteer Day’s theme is together we can through volunteering, acknowledging the resilience of our volunteers through the enormous impact the pandemic has had on our communities.

CFA has a strong volunteer membership of more than 53,000 people.

Executive Director Volunteers and Capability, Deputy Chief Officer Peter O’Keefe, today encouraged everyone to thank Victoria’s committed volunteer workforce for the vital work they do.

“I am incredibly proud of our CFA volunteers and want to applaud them for being highly adaptable throughout constantly changing circumstances in response to the pandemic this year,” DCO O’Keefe said.

“This year has been tough for everyone in different ways, and today I want to thank all of our members for continuing to uphold CFA’s values and serving their communities.

“I know many of our members have endured prolonged isolation away from their friends and family, job loss and other hardships as a result of the pandemic.

“For many, I know CFA has been an important social network and I commend those members for doing their bit to stay connected virtually and look out for one another.”

DCO O’Keefe said our highly trained volunteers have continued delivering prevention, preparedness and response activities across Victoria.

“In light of last year’s bushfire season and as we find ourselves in the midst of summer once again, we recognise our volunteer firefighters for the work they do,” DCO O’Keefe said.

“As always, our members will be ready to respond and protect their communities this fire season.”
