A ‘Fair Go’ Guarantee for Public Transport Users, Workers and Manufacturing

There are no areas of Australia that bus services are not provided and bus business is not present. This is why the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) is calling for a “Fair Go Guarantee” for public transport users, Australian workers and the bus manufacturing sector.

“Each local electorate will have its own transport challenges”, says Michael Apps, Executive Director of the BIC. “And when it comes to public transport, school bus services, charter and tourism (long and short distance) trips these can vary between city to country, from capital city to regional centre, suburb, town or village.

But there is no doubt that the federal government has a national strategic policy and program role to address the growing need for better public transport and mobility services in our cities and regions”, Apps said.

Australian commuters and travelers in general need a ‘fair go’ on guaranteed service levels, fairer fares no matter where they live.

Australian businesses need a ‘fair go’ through the prioritisation of the Australian bus manufacturing sector and recognition of public transport as an essential service.

Australian workers need a ‘fair go’ through recognising the essential role that bus drivers play in our community.

This is why the BIC has released its federal election primer on Moving People, Cities, Regions and the Federal Government, outlining a 10 Point Action Plan to ensure a ‘fair go’ for all Australians no matter where they live.
