Unlike Labor, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has a plan for all Tasmanians as revealed in the 2020-21 Budget.
Our Budget is set to create tens of thousands of jobs for Tasmanians of all ages, bolster confidence and support all members of our community through a record $7.5 billion into education and training.
In contrast, Labor’s unfunded list of promises includes an apprenticeship guarantee that misses half of the mature aged apprentices it’s supposed to support – currently 44% of Tasmanian apprentices are already 25 years and older, classifying them as mature.
Labor have also ignored that it is young people that have been the most impacted by the pandemic.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing more than $43 million to boost jobs for apprentices and trainees in Tasmania, to give businesses the confidence to employ more Tasmanians.
This includes $10.5 million towards the Australian Government’s $21 million JobTrainer Fund, delivering up to 7000 additional free training places specifically for youth and the unemployed.
It also includes $22 million to further drive job creation for apprentices, trainees and youth employees. We will do this by;
- Extending the current payroll tax rebate for all youth employees for a further 18 months;
- Extending the current payroll tax rebate for apprentices and trainees for a further 12 months;
- Extending both rebates to all industry sectors; and
- The Targeted Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business will also be extended to include any small business who employs an apprentice or trainee until 30 June 2022.
These new initiatives are expected to support a further 4000 new full-time jobs for apprentices, trainees and youth employees in Tasmania.
In addition, more than $6 million has also been allocated in the 2020-21 Budget to continue our Rapid Response Skills Initiative, which enables eligible job seekers to immediately access up to $3000 towards the cost of training and up to $500 for employment advice.
There’s also $4.4 million for the Adult Learning Strategy which will help adults engage in lifelong learning that will improve their employment opportunities and build their personal confidence and wellbeing
This State Budget is investing even more into education and skills, to ensure more Tasmanians have the ability to grasp the opportunities and lead a more fulfilling life.
