ABS confirms more positive results for Tasmanian retailers 29 October

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Tasmania’s economy continues to charge ahead according to ABS data released today, with retail trade increasing by 2.2 per cent in September 2021 to a record $668.7 million.

This is the third highest growth in the nation, and well above the national average in September 2021 of 1.3 per cent.

This is great news and testament to Tasmania’s high business confidence, with Tasmanians backing local businesses and having the confidence to spend locally when out and about.

This positive result follows yesterday’s release of the Treasurer’s Annual Financial Report for 2020-21, which confirmed Tasmania’s financial position is continuing to strengthen despite the ongoing threat of COVID-19.

It also follows the recent NAB Monthly Business Survey, the Deloitte Access Economics Business Outlook Report and CommSec State of the States Report, which showed that economic performance and business confidence has stayed strong.

Tasmania is in a good place, but we know there is more to do as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, and we will continue to deliver our plan to grow our economy and create more jobs as we secure Tasmania’s future.
