Additional charges laid on former doctor over historical sexual assaults in Edgecliff

Police have laid additional charges following further inquiries into the alleged sexual and indecent assaults of patients by a former Edgecliff doctor.

In November of 2018, a woman – aged 64 at the time – attended Kings Cross Police Station and reported being sexually assaulted by a gynaecologist/obstetrician while receiving treatment a number of times between 2010 and 2014.

Following an investigation, investigators from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command charged a 77-year-old man in September 2019.

Following further inquiries, investigators laid a further seven charges, including five counts of aggravated sexual assault victim under authority, and two counts of aggravated indecent assault victim under authority, on Monday 6 April 2020.

Police will allege in court that the doctor sexually assaulted a then aged 28-year-old woman and sexually and indecently assaulted a then aged 25-year-old woman on a number of occasions during individual consultations between 2000 and 2001.

The man remains on bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Thursday 7 May 2020).
