Detectives have laid nine additional charges against a man over his alleged role in the use of fraudulent information and identification to avoid detection for traffic offences.
In April 2016, the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad established Strike Force Nivun to investigate reports motorists had been fraudulently nominated as drivers of vehicles that had been issued infringement notices.
As part of their inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 32-year-old man at a correctional facility at Cooma in May 2019. He was charged and remains before the courts.
Following further investigations, the man was issued Court Attendance Notices for nine additional charges at Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 19 February 2020).
The charges include make false document to influence exercise of public duty (x2), deal with identity information to commit indictable offence (x3), make false statutory declaration for material benefit, make false statutory declaration, attempt to make false statutory declaration for material benefit, and attempt to make false statutory declaration.
Police will allege in court that the man supplied the details of people and information for traffic offences committed between 2012 and 2017.
He remains on conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 26 February 2020.
Investigations under Strike Force Nivun are ongoing.
