Mornington Peninsula Shire has welcomed the State Government’s announcement of $300,000 in funding to support the build of a new Wellness Pavilion at Rosebud Secondary College.
The Pavilion will include a meditation space for students in class groups and individually, and private workspaces for wellbeing staff and in-reach services to provide counselling support to students.
This is one of three significant wellbeing projects planned for the Southern Peninsula, including a satellite Headspace service and the Shire’s Southern Peninsula Youth Hub.
These projects have also received funding commitments from the Federal Government including:
- $300,000 towards the Rosebud Secondary Wellness Pavilion
- $1.5 million towards development of the Southern Peninsula Youth Hub
- $1.5 million over the next four years for Headspace to operate satellite services on the Peninsula.
Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill thanked both Governments for significant contribution towards the health and wellbeing of the Peninsula’s young community.
“I extend my thanks to our local Federal PM The Hon. Greg Hunt for his continued health and wellness support of the Peninsula community and to Mr Chris Brayne MP for his support of the Wellness Pavilion.
“It’s fantastic to see both levels of Government recognise the significant impact mental health has on our young people and their wellbeing”, concluded Cr Gill.
Councils representative for the Health and Wellbeing Committee and Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi said “I welcome the news of this funding support for the Wellness Pavilion Project at Rosebud Secondary College as it complements the three major wellbeing initiatives currently progressing on the Southern Peninsula that aim to enrich the lives of our students and young people”.
Seawinds Ward Cr Frank Martin said “it’s so important that our community feel supported in their everyday lives and the Wellness Pavilion will provide invaluable support to young students at Rosebud Secondary”.
Seawinds Ward Cr Simon Brooks said “having this support available in school will help make it easy for students to reach out and receive help in a familiar, safe environment.
“After many years of a holding pattern, I’m grateful that the State Government has followed the lead by the Federal Government to jointly fund the construction of this much needed facility”, concluded Cr Brooks.
Headspace currently provide limited counselling and program services from each of the Shire’s Youth Centres in Hastings, Mornington and Rosebud.
Young people and their families are welcome to book appointments through Headspace Frankston and request to see a Counsellor at any of the Shire’s Peninsula sites.
