Adelaide man charged with multiple child exploitation offences

A 41-year-old Adelaide man is due to appear before Adelaide Magistrates Court today (Wednesday 22 May) charged with child exploitation offences.

The court appearance follows a referral from the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and subsequent investigation by the SA Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET-SA).

The JACET-SA, which comprises the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and South Australia Police, identified the alleged offender in South Australia who had been interacting with other suspected child sex offenders.

A search warrant was executed at the man’s Torrens Park address, with police seizing a number of devices that were allegedly used to share and store child exploitation material.

The 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with:

  • One count of using a carriage service to access child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19(1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is 15 years imprisonment.
  • Three counts of using a carriage service to transmit child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19(1)(a)(iii) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth). The maximum penalty for each offence is 15 years imprisonment.
