Adelaide man charged with possession of child exploitation material

This is a joint media release issued by the Australian Federal Police and South Australia Police

Detectives from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, a partnership between the South Australia Police Special Crimes Investigation Section and the Australian Federal Police, have arrested a 23-year-old man from the southern suburbs of Adelaide for possession of child exploitation material.

The man was granted police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 1st April 2019.

Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

THIS IS CHILD EXPLOITATION, NOT ‘CHILD PORNOGRAPHY’

Use of the phrase ‘child pornography’ actually benefits child sex abusers because:

  • it indicates legitimacy and compliance on the part of the victim and therefore legality on the part of the abuser; and
  • it conjures up images of children posing in ‘provocative’ positions, rather than suffering horrific abuse.

Every photograph captures an actual situation where a child has been abused. This is not pornography.
