Administration upgrade to Richmond Primary School opened

  • $760,000 upgrade to enhance the experience of staff, students and visitors at the East Fremantle school
  • Heritage-listed school celebrates its centenary in 2021
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today opened a modern new administration facility at Richmond Primary School, with the school retaining its heritage appeal through design elements.

The upgrade included a new principal’s office, deputy principal’s office, interview room, medical room, corporate services office, store room and reception area. The updated medical room will provide a suitable space for first aid and support for students, while the refurbished reception area will present visitors and parents with a welcoming entrance into the school.

Works began in April and were completed last month, with the upgrades complementing the historic interwar arts and crafts-style appearance of the 98-year-old school.

The only school in the Town of East Fremantle, Richmond Primary School has heritage-listed buildings, and staff educate 415 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The popular primary school first opened in 1921 and the school community is planning centenary celebrations for March 2021.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“As the only school in the lively town of East Fremantle, staff now have a modern and welcoming workspace to help students’ education.

“These new facilities mean Richmond Primary School will enter the end of its first century with a fantastic heritage-inspired entrance.”

As stated by Bicton MLA Lisa O’Malley:

“Richmond Primary School is at the heart of the East Fremantle community and it’s fitting that the school has an upgrade that befits its heritage-listed status.

“Children in our electorate in East Fremantle have been well-served by Richmond Primary School for nearly 100-years, and these important upgrades will ensure it is able to continue educating local children for years to come.

“Richmond Primary School has a long and rich history in East Fremantle and it’s important that local kids are able to learn in the best possible facilities.”
