Administrator Appointed To Casey City Council

Casey City Council has been dismissed and councillors replaced by an Interim Administrator to run the council.

The Local Government (Casey City Council) Bill 2020 received Royal Assent from Governor Linda Dessau today.

Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek has announced Noelene Duff as Interim Administrator for the council for the next 90 days.

Ms Duff will step in to restore good governance to the City of Casey Council until a panel of three permanent Administrators is appointed who will be the Council until October 2024, when elections will be held.

Ms Duff is an experienced senior leader having spent over 30 years engaged with the governance and management of large and complex organisations. She has recently completed 19 years as a Chief Executive Officer.

In the Australia Day Honours 2020, she was awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) in recognition of her contribution to local government.

As an executive and board member of state, national and international bodies, she has developed a sophisticated understanding of long term strategic planning, governance, fiduciary responsibility, audit regulation and compliance, risk management and digital strategy, required in high performing organisations that value and display good governance.

As stated by Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek

“We’ve acted swiftly to implement the recommendations of the Monitor and through the appointment of Ms Duff residents and ratepayers will see an improvement in the standards of conduct, transparency and integrity in the City of Casey.”

“Ms Duff will work with the CEO to ensure that the Council is focused on governing in the best interests of the local community and providing first class services.”
