Adventure Sunshine Coast shines at Outdoors Queensland Awards

Adventure Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Council’s innovative trail finding website, has been recognised for its role in helping people to get outdoors by winning the Outdoors Queensland Award for local government achievement over the weekend (October 25).

The Outdoors Queensland Awards celebrate programs that have been successful in significantly improving outcomes for the community and also recognise how important the outdoors, outdoor activity and the environment are to the lifestyle of Queenslanders.

Sunshine Coast Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said it was a well-deserved win, with Adventure Sunshine Coast proving to be very popular with locals and visitors alike.

“Since it was launched in April 2019, the website has had more than 35,000 visits from people searching for their next outdoor adventure in our healthy, smart, creative region,” Cr McKay said.

“In addition to this, whenever we share a trail on council’s social media channels, we receive a tremendous level of engagement from people tagging friends to join them on a trail or sharing a story of how much they enjoyed it.

“I’m so pleased that Adventure Sunshine Coast has proven as popular with the judges at the Outdoors Queensland Awards as it has with our community.”

Adventure Sunshine Coast showcases more than 150 free, self-guided walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding and canoeing activities for people of all abilities – whether they are a first-time or experienced adventurer.

The award winners were announced at the Outdoors Queensland Awards Dinner held at the Rydges South Bank Brisbane on Friday, October 25, 2019.
