The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) have released educational resources relating to the process for the 2023 referendum on the Voice to Parliament.
These resources are available for download from the Referendum resources page on the AEC website.
Council is committed to respecting everyone’s right to make their own decision on the Voice referendum and will seek to play an educative role by sharing Australian Government information to assist our community to make informed decisions.
Councillor Fiona Stitfold said resources from the AEC were important for our community to understand the process of the Voice referendum.
“We want to provide our residents with the correct information so they can participate in this referendum, whichever way they decide to vote,” said Cr Stitfold.
“It is vital that the process of the referendum is properly explained from reliable resources such as the AEC.”
You must be enrolled to vote in the Voice referendum.

Sharing the word on the Voice
In its March meeting, Council resolved to support a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the constitution.
This follows Council’s support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart in August 2021 and commitment to acting locally via our Reconciliation Action Plan.
A Voice to Parliament will give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities a route to help inform policy and legal decisions that impact their lives.
Bayside is supporting the Voice while also recognising that there is not uniformity of opinion within the community in relation to the Voice and respect everyone’s right to make their own decision on the issue.
