AFL Masters 2024 to kick off in Western Australia

  • Western Australia secures the 2024 AFL Masters National Carnival
  • Kicking off in September 2024, tournament is expected to attract more than 1,800 participants
  • Mass participation event will boost local hospitality businesses and tourism operators

Thousands of amateur football players and their supporters will descend on Perth from 27 September to 6 October 2024 as part of the AFL Masters National Carnival.

The competition is Australia’s largest mass participation Australian Rules Football carnival with more than 60 teams across seven age brackets to take part in the event at various ovals across Fremantle.

More than 1,800 participants from all eight Australian states and territories are expected to convene in Western Australia for the AFL event, which is open to males and females aged 35 and over.

Players and their supporters will be encouraged to explore WA during their time here, with a number of off-field events organised, including a Golf Day at Royal Fremantle Golf Club, a Hall of Fame cocktail function at the WA Maritime Museum, and a visit to Rottnest Island.

Mass participation events form an important part of the Cook Government’s events vision, as they attract out-of-State visitors to WA and provide an important economic boost.

In 2022-23, mass participation events generated nearly $100 million for the WA economy.
