AFL Players Ready to Kick Goals at Upgraded Olds Park

St George’s junior AFL players are celebrating today following the completion of an $825,000 upgrade to Olds Park Field 2 just in time for the new season.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, has welcomed the completion of these upgrades and has acknowledged the value of these facilities to the local community.

“There is nothing worse for players than seeing that their training or match day has been cancelled due to wet weather. These upgrades will ensure that our players can have confidence that their fields will dry faster for safer gameplay,” Mr Coure said.

The upgrades include the installation of a new irrigation system and the resurfacing of Field 2 at the home of Penshurst RSL Junior AFL Club.

“Local sport is the heart and soul of our community and it is fantastic to see that our Government has upgraded yet another precinct so that everyone in our community can access premier facilities, no matter what sport they play.”

Acting Minister for Sport, Kevin Anderson, said the NSW Government was delivering on its promise to improve the quality and quantity of sports infrastructure across Sydney.

“It is vital that people have access to sports infrastructure that inspires healthy lifestyles and encourages participation,” Minister Anderson said.

“The upgrades to Olds Park Field 2 will ensure the AFL stars of tomorrow have the best facilities available.”

Mayor of Georges River Council, Kevin Greene, said the upgrades would continue to encourage active lifestyles which is important to the families of Georges River.

“Improvements to such a popular and valued facility will provide greater opportunities for families across Georges River and help build a happier and healthier community,” Mayor Greene said.

“Regardless of whether you play organised sport or exercise on your own, these upgrades will support our area’s love of sport and recreational activities,” Mr Coure said.

The improvements were made possible through a $500,000 election commitment from the NSW Government during the 2019 election.
