AGCC reports positive Covid cases

Officers at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre are currently working with a number of confirmed positive COVID-19 prisoners.

AGCC General Manager, Chief Superintendent Scott Collins confirmed the COVID-19 cases in a recent internal broadcast reassuring officers that the safety and wellbeing of the centre were his priority.

Ch. Supt Collins said with the sheer number of infections occurring in the community, it was inevitable that reception prisoners would enter our centres with the virus, which is why the isolation protocols for new receptions were introduced.

“Vaccination boosters and PPE are our top defences against COVID-19 in addition to good hygiene and social distancing where possible.

“By introducing further COVID safe practices such as takeaway meals from the officers mess, cleaning of contact points across the centre twice daily, paying closer attention to social distancing, wearing of masks at all times and good hygiene practices, will further reduce the risk of transmission,” said Ch. Supt Collins.

The planning undertaken last year will hold us in good stead as we respond to the every-changing challenges this pandemic throws up.

“The professionalism and compliance displayed by officers at AGCC to get vaccinated and adhering to PPE protocols should be commended.

“To our officers working on the frontline in these unpredictable times, thank you. I appreciate your work is performed under challenging circumstances and offer my ongoing support.

“AGCC officers have responded to the challenge – they have been exceptional, no fuss.

“I appreciate your patience and tolerance as we work our way through this global pandemic and its impact on our centre,” Ch. Supt Collins said.
