Alcohol seizure – Central Desert

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol destined for a remote community in the MacDonnell Region.

Yesterday morning, Southern Traffic Members conducted a traffic apprehension on a grey Holden Commodore travelling north along the Stuart Highway south of Alice Springs.

Police uncovered and seized approximately 247 litres of alcohol destined for remote communities.

The 25-year-old driver has been issued with driving infringements and the incident remains under investigation. The alcohol has since been destroyed by police.

Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole said “This was a fantastic work by traffic members who have made a huge impact on secondary supply in the region.

“We know the illicit supply of alcohol has far reaching financial and social impacts on vulnerable remote communities and will do everything we can to disrupt its supply and distribution.

“Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs into our communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
