The Eltham Redbacks Soccer Club have been celebrating a win of a different kind – a new electronic scoreboard at their ground at Eltham North Reserve.
Victorian Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, visited the club last week with Eltham MP Vicki Ward, Cr Frances Eyre and Redbacks Chairman Ivan Della Costa to see the new board in action.
The board is one of two new LED scoreboards in the Shire funded with $100,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Community Sport and Recreation Program, and delivered by Council.
The second board will be located at Eltham Lower Park, home of the Eltham Lacrosse Club and Lower Eltham Cricket Club.
Cr Eyre said the new scoreboards will make it much easier for spectators to see the score and the time-keeping clock from around the ground.
“Community sport plays such a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our residents, not only with the obvious physical benefits, but the social opportunities of enjoying a game with fellow club members, family and friends,” Cr Eyre said.
“The scoreboard is fantastic for community events. The Eltham North scoreboard was completed just in time for the Women’s World Cup, and the Redbacks were able to screen the Matildas game on the big screen with the community bringing picnics and blankets to watch.
“We are really pleased to work in partnership with the Victorian Government to support our local clubs and improve our facilities for everyone to enjoy.”
